Towards the end of last year we sat down and reviewed our plans for the trip to Spain and Portugal in October. It was starting to be longer than we really wanted and also costing a little too much. We decided to combine our independent travel between Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia and our cruise from Seville. We have chosen a Trafalgar tour – 9 day Spanish Wonder – https://www.trafalgar.com/en-au/tours/t/spanish-wonder/.
This tour covers the majority of destinations we planned and provides sightseeing as well as breakfast each day and four dinners. One of these is with the Morillo family learning how they produce olive oil. From Madrid I would like to visit Segovia and also to take in the art museums so we have added two nights at the start of the tour staying in the same hotel as the tour. Similarly the tour only allows for one full day in Barcelona so we have added two extra nights, again staying at the same hotel.
From Barcelona we will fly to Lisbon for four nights before taking the train to Porto for our cruise on the Duoro River which will also take us back into Spain to visit Salamanca.
We will now depart from Porto for an overnight flight to Dubai and 16 days allowing plenty of time to visit World Expo. A booking has been made for an apartment in Dubai at Mercure Aparthotel at Barsha Heights which has a very convenient metro station adjoining. The space in an apartment will be very welcome after living out of suitcases for a month.
With all of our bookings made we are now looking at roughly $21,000 plus spending money for 45 nights touring.
