Where to Stay!!!!

Posted on

As some of you will know and some will have guessed, many people think me an organised person. This trip has been about eight months in the planning so I have been pouring over websites and holiday brochures to try to find the best accommodation for a good price that we can book.
A lot of people have asked if we are just going to book it all ourselves on the net. But no, I am using the net for it’s research properties and we will be going the conventional route and using the services of a travel agent. It might be old fashioned in this technological age, but we all feel more confident in dealing with someone we know and trust, than a cyber person or place that may or maynot be really there.
I have been using www.booking.com as a guide to prices and had to use the same dates in December 2012 to plan our budget, knowing that the real prices would probably be higher.
The shock however came when I went online last Wednesday to update the prices now that the real booking period is available only to find that some of my choices were coming up as already booked. Of course it is close to Christmas travel but I did not expect this.
I now know that each booking agent only has a certain allocation of rooms and by using my travel agent she was able to access different wholesalers and still arrange for accommodation in the places of our choosing. We did have to find alternates for two cities and we have paid for those that need to be paid for to lock in the exchange rate. Our starting and ending points will be booked with our airfares and we will hopefully package that together.
In fact our lovely travel agent, Courtney was able to get us better prices than the internet sites for four of our choices.
One example – Hotel Fenice in Milan is listed on booking.com as $495 per night for the night we want. We are paying $177. What a difference.
We have apartments in most cities and for those where we are staying in hotels we have breakfast included. Who wants to go out early in the morning in winter to find a croissant and coffee!!!!
So where are we staying –
London – Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments (Triple Executive Apartment), Kensington
Paris – Citadines Tour Eiffel (1 Bedroom Apartment)
Nice – Citadines Nice Promenade (1 Bedroom Apartment)
Milan – Hotel Fenice
Zurich – Marriott Zurich
Berlin – Adina Checkpoint Charlie (1 Bedroom Apartment including breakfast)
Munich – Citadines Arnulfpark (1 Bedroom apartment)
Salzburg – NH Salzburg City Hotel as part of our Christmas in Salzburg package
Each one bedroom apartment will allow us some privacy and Matt will sleep on the foldout sofa bed in the lounge.
Have you stayed in any of these places or do you have some tips for me. Just drop me a line.
